@marikane - Did you confirm your WordPress database user has the ALTER privilege?
Rolling back to version 2.0.40 will give you the correct upgrade path going forward if that privilege is available, the galleries may not appear due to updating to the most current version first.

PS: If you do have the ALTER privilege set and re-updating to the latest version does not make the galleries available again the we will want to see what is going on directly at your site. Please submit a Bug Report (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/ ... please reference this topic) with log in and FTP credentials for your WordPress installation and we can continue from there troubleshooting.
