I'm suffering from the same issue - "Missing XML Tag" in my sitemaps.
Unfortunately, the 4.0.5Beta2 plugin doesn't solve it.
I'm running the beta plugin on two sites at the moment, one larg(ish) and one small(ish) - the small site works fine, the larger one does not.
V3.4.1 incidentally, works fine on both.
