I was very excited to use Publish to Apple News given its solid reputation. Unfortunately, there are a couple of teething issues I have not been able to overcome despite trying the past few days, so I am needing some help.
The background is that I am using Yoast SEO on my news site (ammok.com.au), including its google news SEO plug-in. I had been successful in setting up, getting approved and having articles published to Ammok’s Google News Channel.
With that success, I installed and set up Publish to Apple News and applied to Apple News. Unfortunately, Publish to Apple News conflicted with some functionality on the theme I am using WPZoom Indigo, specifically, the “featured image” functionality on the post edit page disappeared. Uninstalling Publish to Apple News and clearing the cache seemed sorted out that problem.
The bigger problem is since setting up Publish to Apple News, I have not been able to get any further articles to publish on Google News. Multiple articles in almost a week. The XML file created by Yoast is correctly formatted and I asked Yoast to double-check that everything looked ok.
Are you aware of any other users having the same problem of disruption to Google News? (I can’t find in GitHub or support threads).
Is it possible that in setting up Publish to Apple News, I have changed the sitemap location, name or format in such a way that Google’s crawler can no longer find the XML?
